Common Garden Questions

  • A: Most starts should be transplanted within a few days to a week, weather permitting. Avoid letting plants become root-bound and harden off before outdoor planting.

  • A: Watering depends on a few factors, including how well your soil retains moisture, the temperature, and whether natural rainfall is helping water your garden. In general, watering deeply and less frequently is ideal for in-ground garden beds, as it encourages deeper root growth and stronger plants.

Raised beds and containers tend to dry out much faster than in-ground gardens, so they usually require more frequent watering. During the summer months, adding mulch around your plants can help retain soil moisture, regulate soil temperature, and protect beneficial microbial life in the soil supporting healthier plants and more resilient gardens.

  • A: I recommend using organic fertilizers such as fish emulsion, comfrey tea, worm casting tea, or another organic formula suited to the type of plant you’re growing. Organic fertilizers help feed the soil while supporting healthy plant growth. When choosing a fertilizer, look at the N-P-K ratio (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium). These numbers represent the balance of nutrients that plants use for leafy growth, root development, flowering, and fruiting. Matching the fertilizer to the needs of the plant and the stage of growth can help your garden thrive.

  • A: First—don’t panic. Plant loss is part of gardening, even for experienced growers. Check watering (most losses are from overwatering), drainage, sun exposure, and recent weather. If you purchased the plant from Green Goddess Gardens, feel free to reach out—I’m always happy to help troubleshoot.

  • A: This is often transplant shock. Provide gentle watering, protection from wind and harsh sun, and time. Most plants recover within 3–7 days.

  • A: Smaller plants often establish better and adapt more easily. Big-box plants are frequently over-pushed for fast growth, which can lead to transplant stress later.

  • A: No herbicides, pesticides, salts, detergents, or vinegar-based treatments are used. Plants are grown with soil health and long-term sustainability in mind.

  • A: Plant appearance can vary based on growth stage, environment, and seasonal conditions. Many plants—especially herbs and perennials—look different as seedlings than they do at maturity. If you’re unsure, reach out with a photo and I’m happy to help confirm identification or troubleshoot.

  • A: I use soil-first, low-input growing practices and avoid herbicides, salts, and vinegar-based treatments due to their long-term impact on soil health. While I follow many organic principles, Green Goddess Gardens is not currently certified organic.

  • A: While every effort is made to label and pack plants accurately, mistakes can occasionally happen. If you believe you received the wrong plant, please contact me as soon as possible with a photo and your purchase details so I can help determine next steps.

  • A: Seed germination depends on many factors, including temperature, moisture, light, planting depth, and timing. Some seeds also require stratification or specific conditions to sprout.
If your seeds were purchased from MIgardener, they stand behind their seed quality and offer germination support when seeds are sown according to their guidelines.

I recommend reviewing the instructions on the packet and contacting MIgardener directly if you believe there is a quality issue. I’m also happy to help troubleshoot sowing conditions and timing.
